Policy on Patron Conduct
Patrons not engaged in reading, studying, or using library materials may be asked to leave the building.
The following activities are not permitted in the library:

Consuming food or beverages except as part of a library program

Playing audio equipment so that others can hear

Smoking (NJSA 26: 3D - 38 through 26: 3D - 45)

Gambling, card or game playing of any type not authorized by Library

Carrying a weapon

Engaging in public indecency (NJSA 2C: 14 - 1 through 2C: 14 - 8)

Using illegal drugs or alcohol (NJSA 2C: 2 - 8)

Bringing animals, except those needed by patrons with a disability

Misusing the facilities, i.e., using restrooms as a laundry or the floor for sleeping

Talking loudly, using offensive language, making noise or engaging in other disruptive
behavior (NJSA 2C: 33 - 2), staring at another person with the intent to annoy that person, by following another person about the building with the intent to annoy that person, or by behaving in a manner which reasonably can be expected to disturb another person.

Interfering with another person's use of the library or with the staff s performance of their duties

Leaving a child under the age of twelve unattended in the library without adult supervision (NJSA 9:6 - 1)
Patrons are expected to adhere to the following rules or they may be required to leave the building:

Shoes and shirts must be worn.

Bodily hygiene and/or attire, which are offensive so as to constitute a nuisance to other

persons, are unacceptable.

Patrons must stay within the areas designated for library users.
Library privileges may be limited for the following reasons:

Damaging property
-
Stealing materials (NJSA 2C: 20-12 through 2C: 20-15)

Threatening or physically harming staff or patrons
-
Misusing facilities
-
Disruptive conduct
